Risk the Shit Show

residency, public closing event

Gelegenheiten, Berlin 2015

Risk the Shit Show asks how informal hierarchies can be dealt with in arts and activist collaborations.

Participants were invited based on a mycelium-like structure: Heather Purcell and Sarah Drain, the two initiators of Risk each invited one person, who then invited two more people from the field of art-activism.

Each participant gave a workshop, sharing their strategies for collective working with low hierarchies.

One person took over the camera each day. Short videos on strategies, practices, questions and challenges of collaboration were made and shared with the public on the last evening of the project.

Experiences and questions around each workshop were discussed during daily conversations which were recorded on blackboards, photos of which became part of the final exhibition alongside the videos.
